about

A follow-up to their debut album AUTOGENESIS, the NEXT TO NO TIME EP of three brand-new tracks from the Harlem-based experimental band extends their range of musical moods even further.

ALLOPHONIC is a cutup of elements recorded during the SUPERTONIC sessions - it shares the hi-hat and pizzicato cello parts, but has an entirely different bass part, different guitars, and new chord changes. The overall effect is more intimate, less grand and driving then it’s sibling composition.

VERNALGLOSSIA was originally intended for side two of AUTOGENESIS but when the decision was made to make the primary version of the record a vinyl album, time constraints dropped this track. It is the only N to The Power composition featuring vocals, provided by Jarvis and Leyh’s daughters, Kaya and Ryoko. Making his N2P debut is the brilliant young London trumpeter Vincent Curson Smith, an exciting new voice on London’s burgeoning jazz scene who also plays guitar in MUCKSPREADER.

DUST TIME began as part of a live thirty-minute improvisation by Bruno Coon on trumpet, Tony Jarvis on guitar, and Blake Leyh playing a bass part on cello (the 5-string electric cello has a low note only one half-step higher than a bass guitar). The final track has an exquisite bass clarinet overdub, and the overall effect is pastoral, almost evoking an Ambient Country mood. It plays well with N to The Power’s meditative version of the Bill Evans track PEACE PIECE.

When taken with the simultaneously-released N2P IN DUB Vol. 1 EP, we are being given six new tracks totaling thirty-seven minutes of new music. N to The Power are planning to release their second full-length album titled XENOGENESIS in June 2021, followed by a series of concerts in New York and London.
